3rd Week Reflection and Discussion Forum (Delay)

Ello Guys n gals...Whats up everybody... Now its time for me to update the reflections of week 3 of EIR lesson..It supposed to be on last week due to slight deay and well I'm here to blog about what I had done on the Week 3.

In the Week 3, we are given do tasked to compare Google and Google Scholar. This can help me to compare which sites is effective to search on my related topics.

Ok let me compare between Google and Google Scholar...

Google

Google is a search engine that can search all information we want to search for. Google also not only about search engine, the search engine provide other  features such as Everyday Essentials, Reference Tools, local search etc.

The search result size for Google show millions or billions of the results. However some results are not relevant because of not related to the topics we want to search for. Google are more outdated however it’s still has strength and weakness.

Google Strength

The search interface is straightforward, including an Advanced Search option. Google allows user to preview the page before clicking on to the button. By previewing the page, the user will have some sneak preview about website they searching for. Another unique features on Google is, it has functions which allows users to change the location of Singapore, the timing as well as the standard result of the relevant website.

Google Weakness

New sites, regardless of the quality of their content, get short shrift. It takes 2-3 months for the new pages to get into the Google. Then it takes time perhaps years for other "important" sites to discover the new site and link to it; and then months more for the new versions of those  pages with those new links to get into the Google index.

Google Scholar

 Google Scholar is to provide increased access to gray literature as it retrieves more than journal articles and includes preprint archives, conference proceedings and institutional repositories. Google Scholar also includes links to the online collections of some academic libraries. Including these access points in Google Scholar retrieval sets may ultimately help more users reach more of their own institution's subscriptions.  It’s also provide Citations.

The search result size for Google Scholar are same with Google as it show millions of result. The Google Scholar also provide current resources too and also relevant. However Google Scholar a bit outdated compare than Google.

Google Scholar Strength

Google Scholar may offer a number of versions of the same article depending on where it was found (the publisher's website, the author's website, a pre-print service, etc). However, always use the Library catalogue to search by title for journals that did not link to the full text through Google Scholar or where you are uncertain which version of an article to use.

Google Weakness

Google Scholar provides no information about which publishers or sites are searched, the extent of the material included and the frequency of updating, while the criteria for identifying an article or site as "scholarly" are still fuzzy.

Overall, I think Google Scholar is more effective compared than Google. The reason I choose Google Schoiar is have an extra features which allows users to choose what types of websites they wanted to read. There are also citation features and at least summaries features too.  That can help me to research more effective on my relative topics.

Discussion Forum

Ok now lets move on about discussion forum. We have been tasked to take part in the discussion forum or reply to the post about the related topic that we choose for.

I decided to take part at our local dicussion forum portal SgForums about my related topics.

 

To make sure i need more information abou t early childhood trauma, I decided to post new topics on Early Childhood Trauma on people's behavior on the ROAD Healch Centre forum board at SgForum.

Since I new and just post my topics i need to wait the reply from other user about my recent post. Hope that someone can reply my post and help me about my related topics research that are very useful.

I felt by participating in a discussion forum, it can help me to do my research regarding about my topics. Before I started to post the topics, I felt very worried as I'm scared that when other user reply my related topics  they give me information that are not very useful and out of topics.

Citations and Bibilography!!!!

Why must we have citation and bibliography? Well, for my opinion, I think that, it is important to have citation and bibliography as to prevent plagiarism. This is to acknowledge the authors who have done their hard own work and their effort. It is inconsiderate and wrong to duplicate their hard own effort . It can be use as reference for other to read and  keep track back the website too. Just remember whenever we search the related topics on the certain site, it is important to have citations and bibliography.

EIR E-Learning Week Virtual Shopping..

Hello Peeps, its me again...  This week I will touching about virtual world shopping at Second Life. We've been tasked to do this E-learning task for our e-learning lesson this week as our lesson fall on public holiday that is Hari Raya Haji... As for my opinion Second Life a bit OK for me but the application was very lagged and its make me difficult to move around when its lagged. But nevermind I still managed to get over it.

Ok let me tell u what I had done during Virtual shopping in Second Life, Firstly I visited Men Clothings M design@mall. There were many various types of clothings that available in that store like latest fashion,jeans and office wear.  The items that caught in my eyes was the denim jeans attached with the picture below as I like wearing jeans that are comfortable and trendy.

The next destination of my shopping tour was at Eline Paul Designs. The store had various latest fashion for Mens wear in Town and the designs of their clothings was very nice and unique until I want some stuff that I want to buy in this store. Like I want to buy the whole shop too. LOL!!

The last destination of my shopping quest is at the Car section. There were total 3 shops that I visited. The first auto mobile shop I visited is Haru Motors. There are many latest design models of cars in that shop and various of wonderful colours. I found that the car display in that particular shop was cool and eyes catching too. Next stop is Octane Cars and Accesories shop. This shop most focus on Sporty car and Racing types car. Its was very cool to explore this shop as I like this sporty and racing types of car as I'm a bit like to watch racing sports like Formula 1 etc. Not only cars, Octane also provided various kinds of Racing clothings and accessories. Lastly, the bike shop JFC. Honestly when I just stepped into this bike shop, I'm really excited and feel "Wow" because of the bikes that available there. The design of the bikes was super cool as if I want to ride the bike the now and riding around the city. hehe.. The bike I like the most is the Guns and Roses bike as I'm the fans of the rock band group Guns & Roses =D

After I had done with this virtual shopping, I felt that virtual shopping is more fun than the e-shopping spree as Virtual shopping has many various of choice of stuffs we can choose and purchase the items rather than the Online shopping. However, E-shopping spree  provide us with the product's descriptions and reviews from other buyers compared to virtual shopping as they did not stated the description at all . This as result  difficult for me to know which one is a good quality products etc and  it is very important to have a product's descriptions and reviews as virtual shopping doesn't have any one to ask to so it easy for us to shopping easily.

For this Second Life Virtual experience, overall I see that this activity was interesting to explore the virtual world of shopping even without cash. It's a pity that I can't buy the items as there was an error message simultaneously when I try to buy anything that I like to. I  know how to pick items from the shop itself and also managed using the help facilities that provided for us. However the performance of second life is to slow for me and very laggy too.

If this Virtual shopping world become a reality, I think that I will be enjoy shopping non stop and can bought many many car or motorbike too. hehe..If there a will there is way.

Overall, it is fun to explore Second Life and till then it is time for me to sign out and knock out. Wait for my upcoming hot,hip and cool blogs soon.Cya!! Rahman signing off!! Peace No War!  =D

Shopping Spree for $500 if I have a chance but I will just dream..lol!!

 

If i had $500 for my shopping spree, I will buy this lovely camera Nikon D300 Digital Camera with 18-55mm lens... The reason of I buying this that I need a camera and I want learn more photography skills as I have never been taking pictures for a long time.

For me brand is not important but the quality must be good, And also must suit to my budget, lol!

The purpose of the shopping website that I visited is to let people to know the reviews of any items that I want to buy or before I purchase it. This include the specifications and descripion of the items and the comparison of the  similar items This will help us to choose the best for the item which we can use for every day life.

For my 2nd week of EIR, I've learnt how to do online shopping,search items that we wish to buy and reviews by customer that had been bought the items before. It is important to check the review of the product as to not to get con by the sellers.

Konichiwa!!! Its me again...

Konichiwa Peeps it's me again.. Sorry for the late update blogs due to my busy schedule and preparations for my Bro big day soon. Well its time for me to reflect my blog about the 2nd lesson of EIR that I attended on  last Wednesday 3 November 2010. Our lecturer teaching us a very interesting topics that is using the different kinds of Internet Search facilities.  The objective for us to learn this topic was to help us to how to do n where to do our research more effective with our given topic. Most of my project need to research on the websites. One of the most frequent research site that i visited to was Wikipedia. I bet most of us using wikipedia for doing our research as wikipediia is a online encylopedia that give us full information and fast based my 1st thought. But based on my research that Wiki is the source where users can sign in and include their research information in. So I think that Wikipedia is not effective enough to gain my confident for my research project using the website.

Besdide Wikipedia, there are many internet research sources that can we go to like example like blogs,e-magazines(online magazines website), online newspaper, online forum and many others effective website resources. Based on various kind on internet resources, i find it was very useful and unique and it can help me to do my related topic research more effective and more convenient than wiki. During the 2nd lesson we are instructed by our lecturer to choose our topics that we are task to do. There are about 22 topics that we can choose but each student must choose 1 of the topic that we like to research on.

After looking through the 22 topics, i finally decide to take the challenge by choosing topic 15 that is Discuss the effects of early childhood traumas on people’s behaviours. I choose that relavant topic because I find it was very interesting n challenging topic too as I like to do task that challenging as it can help me to face challenge in the future when I'm in the working environment.

During my research on my related topics, first of all  I find it was challenging and difficult as I need to find new way to do my research more effective. To solve this problem, my solution is to do research by using many internet resources and not rely only one resource as it can help my research more effectives. Based on my research i found that there are many website that give the information about the effects of early childhood trauma on people's behavior. Not only the website, blogs and online forums also are useful as people share their experience about the effects of early childhood traumas they suffered before. Not only that they also give tips how to handle this kind of traumas and how to cure it too.

Comparing the Internet resource's that i have mentioned I prefer the newspaper journals or magazines rather than Wiki as it has current news on my given topic but I could be wrong either as I have not tried any other resource's yet as time constraints. But I will not give up and find my free time to do more resources for my given topics.

I believe by researching using various kind of internet resources, it will help me to do my research on my given topics more effective and reliable. I hope that those resources give the full information about the related topics so it can help me to contribute my information in the EIR wiki and hope that my contribution is useful for other users.
